Norway
This time our journey took us northwards in a campervan with a stop in Denmark and a ferry crossing to Norway.
Norway is a stunning Scandinavian country known for its dramatic landscapes including fjords, mountains and expansive forests. It shares borders with Sweden, Finland and Russia and has a coastline along the North Atlantic Ocean. Oslo is the capital and largest city while Bergen and Stavanger are also notable urban centers. With a population of about 5.5 million people Norway is famous for its high standard of living, strong economy and rich cultural heritage. The country is a paradise for nature lovers offering opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, skiing and wildlife viewing. Norway is also known for its midnight sun in summer and the northern lights in winter. It has a monarchy and a well-developed welfare state. Its economy is largely driven by oil, gas and maritime industries. The nation's commitment to environmental sustainability and renewable energy is also noteworthy.
From the very beginning of our travels we were fascinated by the mentioned rich cultural hertiage as well as the flora and fauna awaiting us. Due to the local traffic regulations the drive from destination to destination was already slowed down allowing us to enjoy the incredible beauty of the country.
We made our way from the south starting in Telemark where we stayed with the famous Jostein and his wife which was a very unique experience as Jostein himself is a remarkable norwegian wildlife photographer and filmmaker. He showed us around and gave us photographical advice.
Then we continued further northwest towards the coast passing fjord landscapes, forests and mountains. A highlight was the Hardangervidda region as we had never seen such landscapes lined with ice and snow yet filled with life before.
The Runde Peninsula was a very special place with warm-hearted locals and a charming campsite owner named Knut. We hiked and photographed seabirds, including the long-awaited puffins and joined a boat cruise around the Peninsula.
Our final major stop took us to Dovrefjell National Park where we went on hikes, admired the landscape and took part in a guided expedition to observe muskoxen.
On this relaxed magnificent journey we also met some very kind people who made the trip even more special. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their enriching company.
