Australia

We can certainly say that Down Under has stolen our hearts when it comes to our past travel destinations.

Australia is a vast country and continent located in the Southern Hemisphere bordered by the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It is the sixth-largest country in the world by land area known for its diverse landscapes including deserts, rainforests, beaches and the iconic Great Barrier Reef. The country has a population of approximately 26 million people with major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth. Australia has a rich cultural history with Indigenous Australian communities having lived on the land for over 60,000 years and the country’s colonial past deeply influencing its modern identity. The economy is robust driven by industries such as mining, agriculture, tourism and technology. Australia is also known for its unique wildlife including kangaroos, koalas and a wide range of marine species. The country offers a wide variety of outdoor activities from surfing on world-famous beaches to exploring the Outback and hiking through national parks. With its friendly people, high quality of life and remarkable natural beauty Australia is a popular destination for travelers and a beloved place to live.

Our journey took us from Perth along the entire southern coast all the way to Sydney. We completed this route in our beloved rented campervan - Barnie - which became our home on wheels for the roughly 2 ½ months of travel.

We made stops at Rottnest Island, Rockingham, Penguin Island, Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Augusta, Pemberton, the Valley of the Giants, Albany, Bremer Bay, Esperance, along the Nullarbor Plain, Ceduna, Smokey Bay, Streaky Bay, Elliston, Coffin Bay, Tumby Bay, Port Augusta, Innes National Park, Ardrossa, Adelaide, Victor Harbor, Coorong National Park, Rope, Mount Gambier, Grampians National Park, Port Fairy, the Great Ocean Road past the Twelve Apostles, Melbourne, Phillip Island, Wilsons Promontory National Park, Lakes Entrance and the Blue Mountains National Park before finally reaching Sydney and its surroundings. We hope to return to this fantastically diverse part of the world soon!
